Hey, my name is Nebel, and I'm completely in love with The Old Republic. I created a new Dreamwidth account for the sole purpose of geeking out about TOR with fellow players. Needless to say, I'm super excited that a community like this exists, because, like
catpella , I desperately want a place to just be a fan of The Old Republic.
Right now, I've got somewhere in the vicinity of six characters, all on the Sanctum of the Exalted server (US-RP-PVE-East). I'm pretty much evenly split between Republic and Empire, but all of my characters lean toward the light. Right now, my main is probably the Sith Inquisitor Malarky, but I have the most affection for my sassy Mirialan Smuggler Nebel (pictured in my avatar).
Things seem pretty quiet in this community right now, but hey! That's a-okay. I just want to let everyone know that I am completely down for betaing TOR fiction/commenting on which companions are the best romances/geeking out about the soundtrack, etcetcetc. This game is awesome, and I really want to be part of an equally-awesome fannish community.

Date: 2012-03-01 08:15 pm (UTC)Ok, so while the game was still in development, I read a review where some Bioware rep was talking about how proud they were of their sound design. And I was like, "crap, this game is going to suck." Because nobody brags about their sound unless they have absolutely nothing else going for them.
Flash forward to release. My husband and I are questing together, and I look over my monitor at him as the dramatic swell of the "Call On The Force" music fills the room. "So," I said. "They were actually bragging about the sound design because it's really, really good."
"Yeah," he said. "I mean, the game's good and all, but the sound really makes it feel epic."

Date: 2012-03-01 09:02 pm (UTC)A few pieces that pop in my mind (slight spoilers):
-- I really like the encounter with Kel'eth Ur's datacron in Dromund Kaas' Dark Temple; to date, his explanation of light side philosophy is the best I've ever heard. But the scene's awesomeness is ramped up by the incredible musical accompaniment that plays in the background. The quality of this first clip is really spotty, and the volume is too loud, but the strings that play from 0:15 to 0:35 are really moving, and definitely add to the sense of uncertainty and dis-ease; things are not right, the music is saying, and if you can recognize that, you might be on the edge of an incredible revelation. This link is a better copy of Kel'eth Ur's speech, but it cuts out the opening sequence.
-- The music that plays while you explore Taris. I love what I can only call an homage to the swelling of the original Star War's soundtrack, suddenly cut short -- just like the life of Taris. Unfortunately, I can't find a link to the Taris song in question.
-- The burst of patriotic feel-goodness when Elara joins up.

Date: 2012-03-01 10:35 pm (UTC)I loved the original KOTOR. It's one of my favorite games of all time. So when I got orders to go to Taris, I was really excited that they were dropping a reference.
Then I got there and I was just... floored. I mean, they even used the architecture that we saw in KOTOR, all updated for new graphics. And the Endar Spire, and you find out what happened to the Outcasts... I just love everything about that planet (not to mention Watcher One, who's just a great villain).

Date: 2012-03-02 04:50 am (UTC)Well, except for a few small things. Like the Endar Spire apparently having footage of the Sith bombardment -- I guess it didn't immediately crash down to Taris? But I liked visiting the shipwreck, just like I enjoy the historied nature of the entire planet.
That said, I really wish I had a speeder for that planet from the get-go!

Date: 2012-03-02 04:37 am (UTC)As for being a crappy mod: pfffffftttt, these things take time, and collective effort. Speaking of which, I've made TOR-centric collection on AO3 -- you should add your story!
